[3.6] Sewerage Disposal

Kasetsart University recognizes the importance of wastewater management. To reduce cost of buying tap water of the university, water quality improvement by healing process, then recycled in some activities such as flower watering. It also reduces pollution of the water before draining into the environment.

3.6-1 Constructed wetland system is more popular method for wastewater treatment in Thailand. Due to high efficiency treatment of organic matter, nitrogen, phosphorus, suspended solids and heavy metals in the water. In addition, there is also a low cost of construction. The operation and maintenance of the system depends on natural processes combined with growing plants in wetland. This is an important part of environment conservation and biodiversity promotion.

3.6-2 Aerated lagoon is a wastewater treatment system that uses oxygen from the aerator, to add enough oxygen into the water. Microorganisms can be used to decompose organic matter in wastewater faster than decomposing it naturally. Aeration pond system can effectively treat wastewater, based on the principle of microorganisms under oxygen conditions. The aerator additionally adds oxygen to the water, also stirred the water in the pond. This method decomposes organic matter throughout the pond.

3.6-3 Wastewater from buildings, no matter near or far from water resources, when it is released without treatment. It effects quality of water. Natural water resource is degraded and cannot be useful for utilization. Therefore, installing septic tanks and grease trap will prevent pollution of wastewater from the buildings. It is a simple technology to treat wastewater. It also suitable method to decreases several pollution of the water. Grease from kitchenware will be trapped and will not mix up with wastewater in drainpipes.

3.6-4 Students are parts of a training on sampling and analysis techniques of sewerage disposal in the area of the university. They find solution of the problem from the result of analysis. This made them aware of sustainable environmental conservation.

3.6-5 Wastewater, from everyday use, drains to a large pond in the area of 16 rai, it is a natural pond. Eucalyptus trees are planted around the pond for odor treatment. When the water drains into the pond. It will be pumped from the treatment pond or canal to watering garden or uses in case study or field study.
